Meet the Polenergia Group

Polenergia is a leading private, vertically-integrated energy group in Poland. It was established in 2014 through a merger of two key assets controlled by Kulczyk Holding S.àr.l, i.e. Polish Energy Partners S.A. focused on developing and operating renewable energy sources, mainly wind farms, and the Polenergia S.A. Group focused on developing offshore wind farms, generation, distribution, sale and trading in electrical energy and certificates of origin.

The experience accumulated by these companies in more than twenty years of their operation is the stepping stone for the Polenergia Group to build its position as a leader of modern Polish energy sector, with presence in all stages of the energy value chain – from development and construction of energy sources, to generation of energy from renewable sources and low-emission gas sourced, distribution, trading and sales of electrical energy, to trading in certificates of origin and CO₂ emission allowances. The knowledge and experience from these area make up the unique competence on the Polish market and form the foundation for the dynamic growth of all areas of the Group’s activity.

Polenergia’s mission is to actively support transition of the Polish energy market through development of low-carbon economy, clean and renewable energy sources as well as striving to the achievement of climate neutrality in the European Union in 2050. Polenergia believes that Poland may play an immense role in energy transition of the Central Europe. In order to achieve this goal, it uses state-of-the-art, effective technologies as well as knowledge and experience of the management and operations team.

The values that define Polenergia include:

  • Passion

to change our environment for the better

  • Accountability

in transparent and accurate performance of our obligations

  • Leadership

in setting new standards on the energy market

  • Self-Improvement

to ensure the top quality of all our undertakings

  • Ambition

to always set the bar high for ourselves

Polenergia expects that the development of offshore and onshore wind farms and large-scale photovoltaic farms as well as energy storage installations will be very dynamic in the coming years. Polenergia recognizes the potential of low-emission gas sources where gas as a transition fuel will contribute to Poland’s energy transition. The Group is also interested in quick implementation of a hydrogen production technology on the local market to support production of green hydrogen, which will be used as raw material for the industry and as fuel and energy carrier.

Modern energy production based on renewable energy sources cannot exist without the development of the domestic supply chain of machinery, materials and services. This is why Polenergia supports the cutting-edge solutions in the area of generation, distribution and trading in energy, using domestic and local contractors and suppliers. The development of Polenergia contributes to Poland’s economic growth and will have a permanent, positive impact for the future generations.

Polenergia Group’s experience in building the national energy market

For 24 years now, Polenergia has been the leader and pioneer of transformation on the energy market. It is the first energy group in Poland, which has been effectively implementing the development strategy based on its own, state-of-the-art energy sources. Zero-emission assets in the onshore wind farm and photovoltaics segments are balanced with efficient low-emission gas-fired co-generation.

Polenergia’s first wind farm, FW Puck, consisting of eleven wind turbines with the total capacity of 22 MW was launched in 2007. Since that time, the Group executed seven more onshore wind farm projects. Currently, is has the total installed capacity of 249 MW and annually produces approximately 670 GWh of green electricity. With approx. 4% market share measured by installed capacity, Polenergia is one of the largest producers of energy from onshore wind farms in Poland.

Leveraging its experience in the wind farm segment, Polenergia successfully took a position in the photovoltaics segment. In 2019 it launched the first large-scale photovoltaic farms in Sulechów with the total capacity of 8 MW.

Since 2010, Group companies have been developing three offshore wind farm projects located on the Baltic Sea, i.e. MFW Bałtyk I, MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III. In 2018, Polenergia established cooperation with Equinor for the joint execution of the MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III projects. In December 2019, the Group signed a cooperation agreement for the execution of the MFW Bałtyk I project. The total capacity of the projects developed by the companies is 3,000 MW .

In 1999, Polenergia built EC Wizów, the first gas-fired combined heat and power plant in Poland. Since 2011, the Nowa Sarzyna Cogeneration Plant (NSCP) has been Polenergia’s key gas-fired asset. It was purchased from Ashmore Energy International in Houston.  Nowa Sarzyna Cogeneration Plant ensures stability of the National Power System through participation in the capacity market and provision of National Power System’s self-start-up and recovery services for Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. The facility is fired with natural gas and has the total electrical capacity of 116 MWe and thermal capacity of 70 MWt .

Polenergia has one of the most experienced development team in Poland, which is actively developing new onshore wind farm projects with the total capacity from 300 to 600 MW as well as large-scale 400 to 600 MWp photovoltaic projects. Onshore wind is the most competitive RES technology with the lowest LCOE (levelized cost of energy produced over the projects entire operation period). This technology will be of key importance for the transition of the domestic energy market. By mid-2022, Polenergia plans to launch three onshore wind farms, which won the RES auction. Their total capacity will be 186 MW. Another wind project with the capacity of 13 MW will be commissioned in mid-2023. Photovoltaics is the second cheapest energy-generating technology, which naturally complements wind energy, among others thanks to a complementary production profile. This is why, over the next 12 months, Polenergia plans to build 29 new PV installations with the total capacity of approx. 28 MW.

Polenergia has competence not only in the development and production of energy from RES and conventional gas sources, but also in the trading and distribution of electricity and development of new technologies. By accumulating the knowledge and experience from all Group Companies, the Group has been able to effectively manage the entire supply chain from energy production to energy sales, while correctly forecasting the direction of development of the entire energy market and consequently optimizing its activity.

Polenergia Obrót is a Polenergia Group company running the wholesale energy and gas trade business, which supports companies operating in the Group and provides access to the market to external entities. The company offers energy to a broad range of end users. Even though the company is focused mainly on the Polish market, it also has presence abroad.

Polenergia Dystrybucja is a Polenergia Group company operating in the energy distribution, energy sales and connection services sector. Every year, 300 GWh of energy flows to roughly 25 thousand customers through the Company’s distribution grid. Polenergia Dystrybucja has assets in Poland’s largest cities.

Polenergia eMobility is a Polenergia Group company operating in the electromobility sector. It implements solutions related to construction and operation of electric vehicle charging stations among the Group’s customers.

By building and operating numerous wind farm projects as well as photovoltaic and gas investment projects and distribution infrastructure, Polenergia has accumulated immense experience in complying with domestic regulations in the energy and investment area. The company cooperates with a broad range tried and tested contractors and service providers on the Polish market. It has the experience in organizing the financing and making final settlements in an investment project.
